Jason Lee: In a Word or Two
It sometimes comes to mind that I, Jason Scott Lee, might want to write a book someday. It could be a long book about my life, and the way it could have been, or it could be a short story about the way my life has turned out. Honestly, my book would probably be boring and no one would read past the first page without making kindling of it. The short biography is true. No names have been changed to protect the innocent, or for that matter, the not so innocent. This is Jason Lee in a word or two.
Born Jason Scott Lee in April of 1973, my mother, Pam, and father, Allen, did what was necessary to provide my two younger siblings and me what we needed—and on occasion, what we wanted. My younger brother, Timmy, annoyed me at times while other times kept me company when my friends could not comeout and play. He did what he could to stay out of the way, but I appreciate his passion for hanging out with his older brother. My little sister,
Tiffany did her best to keep up. Mostly, she just stayed around the house, played with her dolls, and dreamed the dreams of little girls. My father worked as a commission-paid automobile mechanic. There were weeks he would barely make enough money to put food on the table, struggling to paybills, providing for his family. All those years, I never saw him show any regret in his decisions. No one could cook a down-home southern meal like my mother. She was the stay-at-home parent—like most mothers back then. She now tends to grandchildren the same loving way she cared for her own children. I reflect on these dusty memories and realize how vital they are in making me the man I am today.
After graduating Minden High School in 1991, I did what many kids do. Not knowing what path to the future I wanted to take, I did nothing. The “nothing” that I did made as much sense to me as going to college. I knew college had great parties and the thought of partying away my parents’ few hard-earned dollars was simply absurd to me. I played the role of “Jack O’Trades” for years, hopping from job-to-job never quite finding my place. Nevertheless, college still toyed with my conscience frequently. Finally, almost two decades after graduating high school, I stepped out into the educational abyss known as higher education. In August of 2009, I enrolled at Bossier Parish Community College.
I vigorously pursue an Associate in Applied Science concentrating on Cyber Information Technology. Yep, I am a computer geek looking for the answers to life’s little troubles in the buttons of a QWERTY keyboard. My curriculum is networking security so in reality, I will be looking to prevent, or at least limit, those troubles from ever getting to the keyboard. I have grown fond of television shows like C.S.I. and NCIS. The spark of my fondness comes from the rock-n-roller computer forensic folks that can spot a hacker’s tracks a mile away. I think it is sexy, but who am I? I am just a computer geek.
I could go on and on about this and that and we would still not be anywhere interesting…not yet anyway. Ask me in a few months how things are going, and maybe, I will dazzle you with fancy words. Who knows? By then, I might even have a title for my book.
